Description

Source of the name Patnitop is a mutilation of the first name of “Patan Da Talab”, signifying “Lake of the Princess”. In times past a lake existed in the glades and the ruler’s princess regularly used to have her shower there. Part of the lake despite everything exists close to the young inn. The British presumably couldn’t get the right name and throughout the years it changed from “Patan Da Talab” to Patnitop. Patnitop is in the Lower Himalayan Range near the Pir Panjal extend, 47 km from Udhampur, and 112 km from Jammu. It is at a height of 2024 m across which the Jammu-Srinagar Highway passes.

The towns of Kud and Batote are close by. Kud is a modest community where sweet shops make new Patissa (a sweet). You can even purchase it hot and dissolves in one’s mouth. Batote is known as a spot for quality Rajma or the kidney bean.

How to reach:

By Air: It is approx 116 Kms from Jammu Airport

By Train: It is approx 46 km from Udhampur Railway Station
